Meeting Minutes April 6 ? The Northshire Nonprofit Network

Posted on by Administrator

Joy Slusarek called the meeting to order at 8:00 am

Betsy Bleakie, our host at the Mark Skinner Library discussed the resources the library can offer nonprofits and individuals. i.e. various sized meeting spaces, tax forms, etc. She also announced that construction will begin on the library in Spring 2013 with a target completion date of June 2014.

George Long from SCORE (Service Corps of retired Executives) was the guest speaker for the morning. Founded in 1964, and consisting of 350 chapters and 13,000 volunteers, SCORE?s mission is to provide free, professional advice to both businesses and non-profits. It is sponsored by the SBA (Small Business Administration).

To access SCORE in the Manchester you can:
1) Call the Manchester and the Mountains Chamber of Commerce as SCORE is located in the basement. If you leave a message with the Chamber, you should receive a reply within 48 hours.
2) Call a counselor directly
3) Visit the website, www.manchestervtscore.org

SCORE volunteers are not consultants, they are mentors or counselors. They advise and YOU do the work.

Following George, Dawn Smith Pliner from ?Friends in Adoption? spoke about her experience with SCORE. When she started her non profit organization, she had zero business skills. SCORE helped her to devise a strategic plan and to select the right Board members.

To summarize, SCORE is a great FREE community resource!

Meeting closed at 9:05 am.

Next meeting is slated for Friday, May 4 at the Mark Skinner Library.
