The Women's Organisation: 'Women & The Music Industry ...

The Women's Organisation have teamed with Liverpool Sound City to offer a fantastic master class event 'Women & the Music Industry'. Offering their thoughts on the topic and fielding questions from our music enthusiast audience will be a panel of industry experts. The event running on Thursday 17th May 2pm is FREE and open to all. Introducing The Panel

? Gemma Cutting ? Presenter ? Radio City - PANEL CHAIR Gemma started her career at Vibe FM in East Anglia, with her first presenting slot at just 17. After time at Vibe FM, she moved up to Liverpool and started working at Radio City, presenting the late night show. During a break from Radio City she was in the girl band Genie Queen ? and then focused on raising her little boy. Now back at Radio City, Gemma is the presenter of Entertainment City, with music and interviews with some of the biggest artists in commercial music ? Becky Ayres ? Chief Operating Officer ? Liverpool Sound City Becky Ayres is Chief Operating Officer of Liverpool Sound City. Liverpool Sound City (17th-19th May 2012) is a hugely respected 3 day international music, media and technology conference and live arts and music festival. Hosting over 360 artists performing to 35,000 music fans and 2,500 industry, it packs controversial debate, unparalleled networking, amazing music, ground breaking film, fantastic photography, eclectic art, and even a football tournament into 3 inspirational days and hedonistic nights in the World's most legendary music city. ? Jade Wright ? Music Journalist ? Liverpool Echo Jade Wright is the Liverpool Echo's music writer. Working as part of the paper's busy features team, she also writes about food and drink, television and environmental issues, as well as a weekly opinion column. Jade previously worked in television as a researcher and assistant producer. She has more than a decade of experience of working in news organisations in the north west. When she's not working, she's either at a gig, eating out or walking her boisterous family of springer spaniels. ? Jen Corrigan ? Director ? Fierce Management Jen Corrigan has worked in the music industry for 11 years. Studying towards a BA Hons in Music and Entertainment Management at LIPA also gave her opportunity to meet business. Jen say?s ?In our final year we worked at Simon Cowell?s booking agency IMG for a practical management project. Through that we were offered placements on the 2009 series of X Factor looking after contestants, bookings, diaries. It was a great learning curve. Following the work with IMG I was offered a job with Simon Cowell?s company, but I decided it wasn?t for me. It was a very controlled environment and I wanted to have more of a say. It was then Karl and I decided to set up Fierce Management. We had both worked for other people and we felt the time was right to do it for ourselves.? Fierce Management currently have an artist writing with the JLS team and are also working with the production team behind the re-launch of the original Sugababes line up. ? Lisa Southern ? Director ? Lisa Southern PR After University Lisa spent 10 years in London working for consumer PR agency Barclay Stratton, comedy agency Avalon TV and Island Records before setting up her own independent press office Southern PR. In 2007 Lisa moved back to Liverpool to work for music and sports promoter CMP and since re-locating back home to Liverpool, she has become a regular contributor to press and radio on music and football; which has included a weekly what?s on entertainment guide on City Talk 105.9 FM and as a football pundit on 107.2 Wire FM's Saturday sports show with Roy Basnett. Summer 2010 saw the biggest life change yet as Lisa took time out to be a new mum. March 2011 proved to be another landmark year with the birth of Lisa Southern PR. 2011 saw Lisa work on the inaugural Chester Rocks music festival with one of her heroes Iggy Pop & The Stooges, the re-launch of the legendary Liverpool club Eric's and the Liverpool Irish Festival. ? Francis McEntegart LL.B (Hons) Barrister -Director - McEntegart Legal Ltd. Francis studied law at the University of Liverpool where he was president of the Legal Society and editor of the law faculty?s magazine. Francis studied for his Bar Vocational Course at the renowned Inns of Court School of Law and received his Post Graduate Diploma in law from City University London. He was called to the Bar in 1998 by the Honourable Society of Gray?s Inn. In London he worked as an in-house lawyer for a music publisher and joined Kickin Records as head of business and legal affairs. Francis has since worked at two of the North West?s biggest law firms before setting up his own boutique intellectual property and commercial law practice. He specializes in intellectual property, music & entertainment, commercial and e-commerce law and is listed in the Legal Experts Directory as an expert in Media Law. Francis has guest-lectured in music contract law issues at the University of Liverpool, Liverpool Hope University and LIPA. Prior to studying and working in the law Francis was a sound engineer and professional musician. He is the owner of the record label, Cavern Records. ? Louise Martin ? Journalist ? Radio City Louise is a news and sport journalist at Radio City, and has been working in the tower for just over three years. Among the stories she?s covered are the war in Afghanistan, Michael Shields release and the sale of LFC. With a special interest in music Louise has covered the last three Liverpool Sound City?s for Radio City and City Talk, the MOBOs and every Radio City Live event. Music Industry folk Louise has interviewed include Miles Kane, Rebecca Ferguson, The Saturdays, Alexandra Burke, JLS, N Dubz, Ed Sheeran, Prof. Green Following the panel event there will be an 'Acoustic Afternoon' with industry networking and live music to Launch new female run business 'Liverpool Music Awards' featuring some great up and coming local female artists including 'Tibi and Her Cello', 'Science of the Lamps', 'Afrika Fuentes' and 'Caroline England'.
